About This Product
A narrow ray is aimed through the curved face along a radius, so it enters along the normal and can be studied at the flat glass-to-air face as the angle of incidence is slowly increased. Used this way in Light And Optics practicals, the block shows Snell's law, the critical angle and total internal reflection in one set-up.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. Why is the block semi-circular? A ray sent through the curved face along a radius meets that boundary normally, so refraction on entry is reduced and the measurements can be made at the flat face.
Q2. Can it show total internal reflection? Yes. A ray travelling from the glass toward air is totally internally reflected once its angle of incidence exceeds the critical angle.
